As we say good bye to the 2014 golf season, we also say good bye to our dear friends Dave & Doris Vickery. Dave & Doris have been model members of Beaver Meadows for the past 37 years. Extremely generous with their time and money, always supporting the club's many initiatives and events. The Vickery's represent what Beaver Meadows is about; great people with a true passion for the game of golf. Although we are sad to see them go, we wish them the very best in retirement and the new adventures ahead. They just don't come any better than Dave & Doris..
We also say good bye and thank you to our Club President of the last four years, Frank Calo. Under Frank's direction, the club has remained financially stable and has seen significant capital improvements during a period where other clubs have fallen on financial hardships. The members have elected Stew Anklin to replace Frank as our new President. We look forward to Stew's leadership and can feel comfortable that Beaver Meadows will continue to thrive under his direction.
Looking back on a successful golf season, we would like to recognize this year's Most Improved Players. Leading this category for the ladies was Mary Last. Mary's handicap index dropped from 26.8 to 21.7. Mary's season was highlighted by her Second Flight victory in the Ladies Fall Classic, a team event (partner Kathy Sheehan) featuring the best female players in Central New York. Mary also had fine finishes in club events and was a steady top performer in our various Ladies Leagues.
For the gentlemen, our Most Improved Player goes to Phil Evangelista. Phil entered the world of a single digit player dropping his index from 13.7 to 9.4. Phil's game kicked into gear in the second half of the season dusting his quota in the Pro-Super Appreciation event, placing second in the Member-Guest and third in the Fall Member-Member. Phil's buddies are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2015 season, looking forward to all of the dots that Phil will be giving them as single digit. Payback time!!
Congratulations to Mary and Phil for their on course success this season...
Our Member Tournament Schedule continues to be one of the most active in Central New York. It is highly competitive and delivers excitement year after year. Challenging your game in pressure situations is a buzz that most golfers crave. It is what keeps us coming back for more and our interests' sparked.
The 2014 President's Cup is a match play competition that is spread throughout the majority of the season. "Survive and Advance" is the motto to live by if you are to be successful in this event. It is a grind and a satisfying event to win. Congratulations to our 2014 Champions.

Men's Gross - Steve McCall
Men's Net - Pete Schroeder
As always, our Club Championships provided for some great theater testing the winner's nerves down the proverbial stretch.
With the outcome much in question with nine holes remaining, Carina Watkins pulled away on the back nine to claim this year's title. Hence, extending her impressive run in the Ladies Club Championship.
Year after year, the Senior Club Championship proves to be our most competitive Championship. And once again it certainly lived up to the hype. On Sunday, fueled by a front nine 2 under par 34, perennial contender, Bill Edwards erased a 3 shot deficit to find himself in the lead with 9 to go. A position he has been in before. Erasing the demons of past opportunities, Bill played a masterful nine completing the round at even par...one shot clear of first round leader Steve Warmington.
Beaver Meadows is known for having some of the finest players in Central New York, representative of our members' performance in the area's amateur events. This makes for an impressive Club Championship field full of seasoned players who thrive on competitive golf. The first round brought a course that was extremely wet making the Beave play all of it's 6800 yards. The course did give up two sub par rounds leaving Brian Evans and Rich Banish tied at 1 under. As the leaders made the turn on Sunday, it was Brian Evans who had taken control of the tournament and cruised to a a 5 shot victory.
Congratulations to all of our Champions!
The club saw some exciting off-course programs take hold this season. The main program that started with a bang was the Beaver Meadows Swim Team. Successful clubs are offering their members more than just golf and the 2014 Swim Team was a giant step in that direction. Swim Team Chairman, Dean Ripley did a great job getting the program going and we look for it to grow in the upcoming seasons.
I would like to thank all of you for your support this and every season. It is an honor to be associated with a club whose members truly appreciate and respect the game of golf. I would also like to thank our Assistant Professional, Ryan Reynolds for all of his hard work this year. Ryan performed all of his duties well past expectations. Ryan is looking forward to returning next season and the new challenges his position will present.
Best wishes to everyone for a safe and healthy Winter.
Thank you for another great year at Beaver Meadows!
